Tuesday/Wednesday: Longest day(s) of my life, didn't sleep on the 8 hour flight because of a little 2 or 3 year old boy screaming and crying like two feet away. I wrote a paper, read for class, watched Les Mis and listened to the soundtrack like 3 times (shoutout to Cleen), a Rihanna music special for 2 hours (where you at Paige?) and did some word searches...great times. I've decided I do not like European airports at all. Or security that makes me chug water at every check in spot...I don't remember my lay over flight from Frankfort since I was asleep the second I sat down until the plane landed. We finally made it to Morbisch after a 90 minute bus ride from Vienna's airport and the rest of the night is a bit of a blur. No nap, lots of food, explored some bars around town, and finally bedtime.
Thursday:
- housing/orientation meetings, learned German
- first day of class for 3 hours along with quiz number 1 :( but we did get to visit two churches
- dinner on a BOAT into Hungary, amazing BBQ meat, sunset, white wine, and live music
- Gelato later that night was A+ on point, donatella-basically a chocolate frosty from Wendy's with cookie pieces. Banana was actually delicious too!
Friday:
- ran ALL THE WAY to Hungary with my teammate Bekah! (it's actually not even that far...probably a little under 2 miles)
- second day of class, second quiz, and long deep discussion about Creation vs. Science
- saw two storks chillin on the top of a roof
- lunch and then bus ride into Vienna to the Institute where we will have class
- FINALLY met our host families and made it to my new home for the next 6 weeks
- my host mom is amazing: retired Kindergarten teacher, perfect English, and hilarious. She bought us wienerschnitzel for dinner (yes dad, I've officially tried it now...DELICIOUS) and popped out some limited edition white wine only made with the freshest grapes not grown or sold in Vienna anymore. Her daughter joined us, I felt right at home making jokes with them, making fun of each other, and laughing hysterically. She told us all of the great places to go and I can't wait to meet her 2 year old daughter and husband. After we watched Dancing Stars aka Austrian Dancing with the Stars and chatted about life....she is AWESOME!
Tomorrow we (my roomie and I) are getting up early to check out the huge flea market which opens at 6:00 am....gross. Then walking tour around the city at 9:30, break for lunch, Schonbrunn Palace Grand Tour and then the Opera for Carmen. Can't wait! This whole blogging thing takes way more time than I thought on top of my homework and journals, but I'll try to keep y'all updated. Miss you all!
Peace and Blessings,
Kelsey
